Advent - Day 23

It's my final contribution to the Crafty Ribbon Advent Celebration today.  (The girls will have more for you tomorrow...)

You have another three days to add your name to all the linkys so even if you have only just found us you can still be in with a chance of winning the prize from day 1 - if you get in quick!

Today I have a handmade button garland.  I've seen similar around in shops and garden centres.  Waaay too expensive to buy though and super simple to make.  I just used some garden string (liberated from the shed a few years back, now happily living in my craft room!) and tied buttons on at roughly regular intervals.  To make it a little extra special I covered a few white star buttons in gold leaf.  I have used a combination of these buttons...

Budgie is rather fond of this reel of string too.  You can see in the background of this photo to the left.  She has a length hanging in her cage that she chews and grooms.  The first time I gave her some string to play with it was a compromise... she wanted to chew my ribbon.  There was no way that was going to happen!!

I'd like to link my garland up to

that craft place

Advent - Day 22

Ooh, I was dead chuffed when I'd finished this!

A bauble made entirely of ribbon - had no idea it would make me so happy!!

I stiffened the ribbon by painting it with matte medium, working it in to the ribbon really well.  Then I cut 5 lengths of ribbon, splayed them out in to a star shape and secured them with a cross stitch.  I then one by one secured the tops of the ribbons together making the sphere shape.  My joining at the top was super messy so I covered it up with my hanging loop... no one will know!!

I used ribbon from the vintage range n old lace and nile.  You could use any ribbon, the wider the ribbon the bigger the bauble would need to be... ooh, giant baubles...

Link up over at Inspirations to be in with a chance of wining wonderful prizes...

Advent - Day 21

I made this tin up for Crafty Ribbons Advent with the intention of making something to put inside it.  Unfortunately I haven't been well enough.  However the tin will keep until next year...

I made a rosette from some wide sheer organza ribbon, stuck a disc of card and a felt die cut on top and added a bit of bling edge 3mm.

Simples!

Advent - Day 20

Welcome back for day 20 of Crafty Ribbons Inspiration's Advent Celebrations.

Easy ideas for Christmas?

How easy is it to recycle a paper bag for Christmas?  So easy!!

A rectangle of patterned paper stuck over the shop logo - this bag was from bravissimo.

Cute ribbon to replace the original handles.

Witty remark on the base of the bag ;)

Using Winterscene ribbon.

Advent - Day 19

Amazing what you can do with a bit of polstyrene and a tin of pins... This is a polystyrene cone covered in loops of ribbon.

So simple but I love it!  It's sitting on my little shelf and it makes me smile :)

I cut lengths of ribbon about 5-6cm long and pinned in rows starting at the bottom.

using dots, sheer, ric rac, check and Santa ribbons

Advent - Day 18

When I do my advent creations I usually have quite clear ideas in my head... not this time!  I just played.

I'm not super happy with it because I don't feel it is very 'me' but here are the details...

Recycled packaging, card, ribbon, Father Christmas cut from a card received last year, vellum tree, iridescent glitter, matte white glitter, glue.

Advent Event - Day 15

Somethign nice a silly for today...

A button pom pom ring.  I had a ring blank left over from making jewellery several years ago and I wondered if I could make a fun Christmas ring.  I made this in Novemebr and may have been a little inspired by the fireworks...

I dipped in to my red buttons and pulled out lots of different sizes, shapes and shades.  Nothing matching or measured about this!  I used some green embroidery thread to sew them to the loop on the ring base.  I wanted the green to be visible so I left the tails of thread attached but trimmed.

I've been wearing it quite a lot this month and I love it.  It is totally bonkers, almost like wearing a percussion instrument, as it rattles and makes noises as I move.  I'll definitely be making more of these in the new year in other colours :)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Advent - Day 13

Here is a little hanging decoration that I made for today's Advent Celebration at Crafty Ribbons Inspiration

I've used the Vintage Christmas range that is exclusive to Crafty Ribbons.  When I want to fussy cut ribbon to layer like this I use gel medium to stick it to very thin paper.  This stops the majority of the fraying.  Also when I have cut the design out I go around the edge with a little matte medium to seal any fibers that might try and 'fluff out' the edges!

I think this range of ribbons is my favourite - I just love the colours :)

Advent - Day 12

Woot!! Woot!!  Day 12 of the advent celebrations happening at Crafty Ribbons Inspirations :)

You know those square magnets that come with witty sayings in them?  Well I had a couple that I've had for ages and was a bit bored of.  Rather than put them in the charity bag I took them apart and re-filled them with some ribbon.

For this one I used some wide Christmas ribbon inside the magnet, just trimmed down to size.  On the front of the magnet I added a snowman tag and a few paper snowflakes.

A happy refurbed magnet :)

Advent - Day 11

Carrying on with our advent celebrations over at Crafty Ribbons Inspirations here is my make for day 11.

I used a couple of hairslide blanks from my stash (from a craft fair a few years back, but you can find similar on eBay etc.), a few of Ali's buttons and some of my beloved 3mm ribbon.

Literally all I did was tie them together.  Easy peasy!  And believe me I need easy at the moment having had two falls and put a staple through my finger in the last 5 days... sigh!

The great thing about these clips is while they are perfectly durable and sturdy they can also be temperary - let me explain.  Because the buttons are just tied to the clip you can easily un tie them and replace with blue buttons and silver ribbon, or purple buttons and gold ribbon, whatever combination to match whatever outfit you have on for that special Christmas do.  :)

Thanks for stopping by and for joining us at Inspirations for out Advent series :)

Advent - Day 10

Day 10 of the fabulous celebrations (and giveaways, did we mention the giveaways?) at Crafty Ribbons Inspirations.

Today's make also incorporates my gelli printing...

I had the light switch in my room altered so I can turn it on with a fob instead of having to either move (which isn't happening very much at the moment) or call for someone in another part of the house to come and switch it on for me.  The little fobs came in this corrugated cardboard box.

I flattened it out and printed a few layers of Christmas-y colours and shapes on it.  When it was dry I re-assembled the box.  I cut a piece of red paper to cover the label with all the details of the original contents and added some ribbon from the Owls  range.

Advent - Day 9

Welcome to day nine of the Crafty Ribbons Advent Celebrations!

Today I have made some markers for our Christmas cheese board!  They could just as easily be table settings too, and, of course, you could make them in different colours - but you know me and my neon!  :)

I collected together some pegs, sequins, baubles, mirror paper, white card and my beloved 3mm satin ribbon.

I was playing with my gelli plate so I printed the pegs and incorporated the sequins in to a print which in turn coloured the sequins - perfect!  I used a glue dot to add the sequin to the peg.

I simply tied a bow through the bauble, clipped it to the peg and stood the peg upside down.

A bit of double matting and layering and my cards were ready.

Now bring on the Wensleydale!!  :)

Advent - Day 8

I'm up and down like a yo yo here... This is Sundays post which never got written let alone posted...  Grr! to the M.E.!!

#######################################################################

Here is todays make for Crafty Ribbons Advent Event.

I'd loved Ali's chocolate coloured Christmas ribbon from the moment I saw it, as it's such an unusual colour for Christmas.

I combined it with chocolate lace too.

The thing is I have no presents that are this shape or size...  I need a little more co-ordination!! :)

Our sponsor is QKR so head on over to the Inspiration site to enter to be in with a chance of becoming one of our winners.

Advent - Day 7

Day seven already.  Seven doors opened on the advent calendar, seven chocolates eaten, blown the advent candle out seven times.  I love this time of year.  :)

For today's Crafty Ribbons advent make I have something a little quirky...

I've made a bottle of Christmas Cheer.  It's along the lines of a snow globe...  I filled the bottle with water, glycerin, mica powder, glitter and sequins.

I can tell you, it's so satisfying waiting for it all to settle and then shaking it up again...

I've added a tag with my beloved 3mm ribbon and a touch of lace.

We'd love for you to hop over to the Crafty Ribbons Inspiration site and join in with our Advent celebrations!
