Shake your Tailfeathers!

I've finally been able to bring myself to scrap photos of my sweet Herbie.  I had a couple of feathers from a Just Nick cut file on my desk and I just went for it.  I grabbed The Peacock Strut sequin mix from SpiegelMom Scraps and my watercolour palette. I like to use vellum for shaker pockets as it nice and firm but this time I wanted something very flexible.  I used some flimsy packaging - you do need the right kind of plastic though, as some don't get on with sewing machines!  Once I had my shaker made I marked on the background where my elements would go. I then added some pale watercolour washes beneath where they would lie so it would just peep out from behind.  To finish the layout I journalled around the edge - simple but elegant - rather like my Herb!! Thanks for looking!

A is for apple

I love green! Just sayin'. This layout was made for WW1 Crispy Lettuce green colour scheme. I had fun with my watercolours. As I was just using regular cardstock I added a layer of clear gesso first. I complimented the watercolour with messy green thread and added a few acrylic hearts from Color Cast Designs. A snippet of patterned paper and vellum top and bottom and some sewing with my machine rounds out the layout nicely. There will be a process video to follow in a week or two. Sometimes editing needs to be put to one side and life needs to be lived!

Chuckles

I love to scrap with no idea of what is going to happen... no themes, no sketch, no image in my minds eye. Because sometimes something like this happens! I love the vellum backed cloud top. I didn't enjoy sewing it but I'm glad I did, the texture is great. Supplies are from Jillibean Soup Shades of Colour, along with some sparkly sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps. You can't beat some good colour mixed with white cardstock and sparkles! Here's the vid!

Scraplifting Melissa Vining

Melissa is one of the guest designers with SpiegelMom Scraps this month and I was assigned to scraplift her.  As usual, the picking which layout to scrap took the longest time! My creation is based on this layout from Melissa: I made my own patterned paper on the silhouette cameo as I could choose words relating to my photo.  I used some mists and the packaging technique to add some colour. I looked through my embellishments and picked anything that was the right colour.  The colour palette was dictated by Henley's feathers. For my sequins, I chose Sparkle Ever After because I'm still obsessed with the polka dots! Here's the video... Thanks for looking!

Pretty Little Studio

I am super excited to be amongst the squad guest designers Pretty Little Studio have lined up for the spring/summer.  I'm taking part in a freebie Instahop today - you can find the details here and the freebie here . This month's freebie is by Claudia Van R and is beautifully pastel and dreamy. I added some sequins and enamel dots, and a whole bunch of sewing. The great thing about printables is you can pick and choose what you want.  I printed a load of the triangles in a few different sizes and was able to create something I wouldn't have been able to with a pack of ephemera.  The downside is my printer is rather naff!  I would love a better printer so suggestions for makes and models greatly appreciated! Thanks for stopping by!

Jesse John

Ah, Cocoa Vanilla... my first love! Most of the supplies used on this layout are from their newest collection with a fwe oldies thrown in for good measure! Lots of mixed media and sewing too.  I've mainly used Shimmerz products in the background but it was a case of matching colours rather than matching brands. The alphas were deep in my stash, I can't remember where from, but they are the perfect match. Thanks for looking!

A couple of cards...

I've been playing around with this month's Stick It Down card sketch... As I was trimming down the first card from A6 to square I realised I could also make a tiny card with the offcut... Supplies are from Jillibean Soup and SpiegelMom Scraps. The diddy card is made from one sticker and adapts the sketch to 5 sections. I covered the focal point of the larger card with crackle accents.  It's the first time I have used it - certainly won't be the last! Thanks for looking!

Love You. Love You too. Love You two.

This month's sketch at Stick It Down is an interesting one... I had something completely different in mind when I was creating the sketch, but by the time I got round to creating the layout my idea had morphed. I wanted to use these three Perspextives from Bramble Fox on one layout with three photos of my nephs.  I wanted the title to read Love you, love you too, love you two. I used my watercolours to match the colours of the acrylics and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Hop over and link up with Stick It Down if you create with this sketch!

Panda's Lunch

I spent ALL of my magpie points at Hey Little Magpie last week.  I needed a treat, some just because goodies.  I bought a few sheets of Jillibean Soup papers and some large letters from their Shades Of Colour range. The letters are such great colours.  I decided on a black background - partly because the letters really pop on black and partly because I've been told I need to work on black more by my cousinlets!  They are right, it gives good results.  I framed my title with lots of messy sewing. I added a few splatters and sequins (Shimmerz sprays and sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps.) Thanks for looking!

Shaker Wreath

Carrying on from last week's shaker pocket, this week is a shaker wreath for SpiegelMom Scraps. I had a relaxing time painting the wreath (which you can see in the process video) and loved the result.  It was hard to take a knife to it to cut the centre out!  I picked a muddy photo to scrap so I avoided painting the traditional floral wreath and stuck to greenery and leaves. I used some of my fave paper from Pink Fresh - it's the perfect shade of mustard.  I added a sprinkling of bugs! The ants are brads but because of the shaker pocket I cut the legs off and glued them on. I added a few journalling strips and called it done. You can find the sequins here!

Rainbow Stars

I pulled out my white grosgrain Swiss dots ribbon and set about making a rainbow layout for Crafty Ribbons... You can watch it all come together here: Supplies: Swiss dots grosgrain ribbon in colours exclusive to Crafty Ribbons

Watercolour and Sequin Shakers

This month's theme at Spiegelom Scraps is watercolour and shaker pockets, and this is my first DT piece of the month. I played around with some of my Daniel Smith watercolours on some 12x12 300gsm watercolour paper.  I buy a pad of 16x12 and trim the down to 12x12.  It also leaves two 4x6 or postcard sized pieces to practice on. I picked my sequin mix before deciding on anything else.  Authentic You has navy, teal, gold and peach sequins in lots of different shapes, sizes and finishes.  I pulled out some card and vellum from my stash to match. I fussy cut a couple of butterflies from a scrap of (Maggie Holmes?) patterned paper.  I cut the same shape out of mirri card twice and adhered the together.  The two gold layers are facing each other and reflected a lovely warm gold glow under the butterflies wings. I hoard pretty vellum so I'm quite chuffed I was brave enough to cut in to this sheet!  I love that it allows the watercolour ...

Rainbow Sketch

Over in the SpiegelMom Scraps Facebook community , we are having a little sketch challenge.  This rainbow sketch will be up for the month of March - anyone who creates a layout inspired by it and posts a photo on the relevant thread will be in with the chance to win some sequins! I've created this layout... I'll honest it looked better in my head than it does on the card! I feel my rainbow colours got a little muddied from the overspray - I'd prefer them a little more crisp.  I'm trying to work out how to make the layout that is still in my head! I do love the sequins though... these are Rainbow Bright . I had a bit of white overspray on my photo.  By the time I noticed it was already dry.  I decided to embrace it - I masked off my face and added a few more splatters.  I let them dry part way and then blotted.  This gives almost a bokeh effect.  I repeated it a few times building up layers of dots and blotting. I think it...
