Perfect Imperfections

I love tulips.  I especially love the petals that are a little bit wrong!  Let me explain... the petals that have had a hole eaten in them by a caterpillar, the petal that got bruised it transit and is a different colour to the others, or the petal that has a streak of green in them like the weren't sure if they were meant to be a petal or a leaf! So that is what these photos are!  The layout is a combination of challenges.  It fits the Mind The Scrap summer challenge but I was working with the Cuts2Luv challenge in mind. I've used 2 of the same photo, chevrons and the sketch... loosely!  And of course some of their flair . I've also used sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps , and a tonne of pink hearts from my stash.  Sometimes I have to put all the pink on one layout to use it up!! Thanks for stopping by!

all mine

Another layout with like for ever's August kit using this sketch . I went a little bit messy for the background using gelatos and Heidi Swapp texture paste.  Then I threw on some splatters of ink in a few colours.  I did not think I'd use the tassels but whaddayaknow?  I like 'em!  They are fun.  I also added a fair amount of messy stitching. I quickly figured out the only way I was going to get the burger sticker used was to do a layout about burgers!  It's my meal of choice though, so I had a photo printed. Thanks for stopping by!

ATC's

Hello!  I'm here today to share some recent ATC’s… They are part of a deck of cards for Jessica Brogan's swap .  ATC’s – or artists trading cards – are usually small pieces of art (64mm x 89mm) swapped between artists.  Rather than working on a small scale to begin with I work on a larger sheet to make my mixed media backgrounds.  For me this is just playing with watercolours or Shimmerz, acrylics, modelling pastes etc until something starts to form.  Then when I get an idea, I follow it! This batch of cards use quite a few SpiegelMom Scraps products.  In the background I have used some Shimmerz colourings and dazzlerz .  My feature embellishment on some of the cards are the gorgeous Birds of a Feather Felties is Aqua/Blues and Green/Rust.  And of course I cannot make anything without using sequins – I’ve used some from green machine and some from lucky charm . Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Bliss

I keep an eye on the challenge themes at Quirky Crafts .  They are, as the name suggests, always a little quirky.  I get disillusioned with anything goes challenges - it's not a challenge!  I like the fact that you have to work a bit to join in at Quirky's.  This week the theme is all white.  Tricky, but very fun! I used modelling paste through a stencil, then compared my Cosmic Shimmer mist and Shimmerz Inklingz.  (I've been attracted to Shimmerz but with the postage and the fact I already have some mists I haven't managed to justify buying.  But some how these little Inklingz pots made me buy them...)  Today was the first play with just one of the colours and compared to the Cosmic Shimmer it hits the mark. The droplets are mist, the splatty splodges are Inklingz.   It looks better in real life than it does in the photos, it's much more shimmery. I pulled out a few white layers - card, mulberry tissue, grosgrain and satin ri...

Fabric Book

This post first appeared on spiegelmomscraps.com as a guest post. For my first guest post for Spiegel Mom Scraps I decided to make use of the gorgeous sequins.  I used two mixes - you can find all the sequins, mixes and plain, here . I recycled an old fabric sample swatch for this little meditative fabric mini book.  I didn't want a very neat finish so I just used a zig zag sewing machine stitch around the edges of my fabric and left a few loose threads on show. When I had my page blanks sewn I pulled out a couple of stencils and some modelling paste.  I picked through the words on the stencil and made my own sentence... It reads, "release yesterday and the day before that surrender today and tomorrow. find art and beauty" When my modelling paste was dry I went through hand sewing a few sequins on each page.  Where possible I added a sequin on both sides of the fabric so none of the stitches were showing on the reverse side of the page. Whe...

Poppy Lou

If you are here for the Crafty Ribbons Blog Hop please see the post below x Here is a mixed media layout I made last month... I used modelling paste, gel medium and mica powder through a Finnabair stencil for the background.  I mixed the gel and the paste together to give a slightly more translucent finish to the paste then roughly mixed in some mica.  I didn't want my butterflies to be evenly yellow, rather that they would be several different shades.  And of course the mica plays with the light so they twinkle and sparkle beautifully. I pulled out papers from my scrap folders and layered them up with tissue and vellum.  Once I had my stack of papers and my yellow background it felt like it was missing something punchy.  I grabbed my black fineliner and doodled on the papers and the background - and through the stencil too, outlining some butterflies and adding more, overlapping some of the yellow butterflies. I went for a solid and bold foam...

Texture Bubbles

Some art to share with you all today... The canvas is 24" x 36" ish.  (The photos are taken on different days in different light, I struggled to get photos I was happy with.) Basically, I messed around creating texture and then added some paint.  I'm sure a different artist or an expert would go in to great detail and talk about technique and the thinking behind the painting.  I didn't really think about anything in particular, I just created with no goal or aim in my mind. I had fun.  I used colours that took my fancy not worrying if they matched or not. I tried to create as much texture as possible. And I added neon pink - just because! I think this is the way I need to paint.  To just paint instead of thinking. What do you think? It's hanging above my TV and I often find myself just staring at it! Thanks for stopping by!

Be Awesome

Here is a layout I made at the end of last year... I had a little delve in my stash and came up with lace from Crafty Ribbons that has nearly sold out.  (You can grab a £1 sale pack here while they last!)  As it had nearly sold out and was no longer available in the main shop I stopped using it.  Why?  I hadn't run out...  Anyway, I used 6 lengths on this layout, maybe that makes up for it?! The cluster is all Things That Shine pieces that I have fussy cut and stacked with a corrugated tag. The background is me experimenting when I first got some modelling paste.  It was put to one side to be used later - that was months ago!  Finally it's used. By the way, Crafty Ribbons are looking for a few more crafters to join our team...  We'd love to hear from you! Also, in the spirit of being awesome and not afraid I'm entering this layout in to Avenue 613 All Crafts Word Art Wednesday Thanks for stopping by!

No Words

I've been struggling with my art journalling.  Surely if I call it journalling there has to be words?  I don't have any words.  So maybe I'm just art-ing in a book? The process... smooshing the page across left over ink, splattering on more ink, cleaning the stencil on the page, colouring up some texture paste and passing it through the stencil.  Scribbling with art bars and washing them in to add more colour.  Stencilling white paint through the same stencil. I did then write something along the lines of 'feeling pressure to add words... I guess I gave in' near the spine on the right hand page.  I sprayed with water to make it run a little bit and it ended up almost washing it away completely.  I thought this was quite funny :)  I won in the end! Some close ups... I am pleased with the texture I'm getting.  My problems lies with word demons and, if I don't use words, how do I know when it is finished??! All advice gratefull...

Rainbow Butterflies?

Yes please!! I love rainbows and I love butterflies.  This is my latest canvas... I used crafters acrylics, modelling paste and pearlescent medium.  The butterfly mask/stencil is by Finnabair, and is definitely one of my favourites. I'd like to enter this in to: Country View Challenges - Painty Artists Play Room My Craft Creations Craft My Life All Crafts Challenge I'd love to hear what you think... Thanks for stopping by
