Mad Weave

Back in September , I shared a woven clipboard I had made for Crafty Ribbons .  I had a few ideas for other ways to use this Mad Weave in my crafting. I made a few hexagon templates a little larger than twice the width of my ribbon and set about weaving around them.  Again you can watch a video of the weaving instructions here as it is much easier to watch than to read if you see what I mean. I used super strong sticky tape on the backs of the hexagon to secure the ribbons in place.  I then had three tiles of woven ribbon.  My original plan was to use these as embellishments on a scrapbook layout but when I saw them I thought a card would be a good use of them too. I use a square card blank and added a sentiment stamped and embossed on vellum and pinned to one of the hexagons. I've used 9mm satin ribbons available here. Thanks for looking, I hope you have all had a Happy Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year!

Angel Doily

It's Christmas so we need an angel or two...  we always had one on top of our tree when we were kids and it was usually handmade.  You know the ones, toothpick in a polystyrene ball, doily body, dodgy glitter glue work and some tinsel stuck on top?  Well, this is my handmade tree topper this year aged 32 and a half! It is made from one doily cut in a special way - pretty much along the lines of this , but I took a template from a shopbought Christmas card from 2 years ago. I added a few bits of ribbon from Crafty Ribbons; the one woven through the doily is 3mm copper lame.   I also used some Nativity Words Ribbon to add a hanging loop.  This was an 8" doily and is too big for my little tree!

Cake

Today I am sharing my take on Stick It Down 's single page sketch for December.  When I designed the sketch I had these cut files from Ashley Calder in mind. I have had them in my stash for a few years and am really pleased to get them down on a page. I stuck with a simple colour scheme of white on white accented with a touch of green and gold.  The green is from Shimmerz - bamboo leaf spritz.  I popped my journalling up on foam to give dimension and cast a shadow. Here is the process video: We would love to have you playing along with us.  Create a layout or card based on this months sketches and link up before the month is out - all the details can be found here . Thanks for stopping by.

Candy Cane Shaker

I've pulled out my silhouette cameo again for this weeks SpiegelMom Scraps project.  We are still working with the theme of Use Your Tools - I do plan to use other tools too but I really love my Cameo! What better than a shaker candy cane packed with festive sequins?! Happy Happy Winter fills the majority on the shaker areas with two highlighting some handmade polymer clay candy canes by the fabulous Manxy Cat Crafts . The remainder of the layout features some splatters with Shimmerz Paints Vibez in Snow Storm and some grosgrain ribbon from Crafty Ribbons. This one was a lot of fun! Thanks for looking!

Pigs Might Fly

When I saw this ribbon I knew I wanted to recreate the little tomte in paper form.  Who could possible resist a nisse riding a pig?! I made a pattern and paper pieced him together in matching cardstock.  I tried to include all the details from Ali's design.  I made it slightly dimensional by layering - I guess that is decoupage? I attached the nisse to the card in such a way that he spins... now not only do we have a nisse riding a pig we have a flying pig!! I'd love to give you directions on how to create a spinner card but I worked from several tutorials that I found on you tube and still ended up wondering off on my own path.  I will share clear instructions when I have them, it's on my list of things to do in the new year. Supplies: Ribbon from the Nisse collection from Crafty Ribbons Sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps paper from my stash Thanks for looking!

gift wrapping

Fancy wrapping is my thing so I love this time of year! I've used Crafty Ribbons Gingerbread ribbon on this parcel... If you need me I'll be sitting on the floor surrounded by wrapping supplies!!

SMS Sketch Challenge

Over in the SpiegelMom Scraps facebook group we are running a sketch challenge... Suzanna has set the fun sketch and my immediate thought was I really want to use my new Christmas stencil!! I picked out a colour scheme of white, Christmas red and icy blue. The Fairisle style stencil is from Pretty My Page.  I used two colours of Pasteeze through it two give various shades of blues. I added a few puffy stickers (Bella Bvd and Elle's Studio), a few acrylic shapes (Color Cast Designs), some thin checked ribbon (Crafty Ribbons) and a handful of sequins - from SpiegelMom's of course! The marbled type effect in the paste is subtle but I think that is because one of my colours is white.  When mixing two colours (not white!) it gives a more bold finish.  The blue shade is called Baby Boy Blue and really is a beautiful colour. Here is the process... Thanks for looking!

Hang On

SpiegelMom's Sparklers are digging in to our stash and using our tools this month.  My first thought was my Cameo... So I whipped up a background cut file and set my faithful friend to do her cutting magic. I pulled out Cocoa Vanilla's Wild at Heart and added some sequins from the Free Spirit mix. I did a little fussy cutting and found a flair that matched perfectly... You can nab the background cut file for free here. Thanks for stopping by!
