X's and O's

I don't know about you but there are always more X's in the alphas sets than I will use in my general spelling.  What to do with these pesky leftovers..?  I have just the sketch for you... Here is my take... I've tweaked it a bit because I can't help myself!! I've raided by black, grey and silver alpha packs for X's. When I collage 3x3 or 4x4 photos on to a 4x6 print I fill up the spaces with little photos.  I printed a tonne of the same photo with this layout in mind. I had enough to make a quirky half border too. I used some bright yellow heart vellum from Pretty Little Studio for a powerful colour pop to play off the rest of the monochrome colour scheme. I love this border concept and hope to play around with it more soon.

Jillibean Soup - Guest Designing I

I shared last year that I was fortunate enough to be among Jillibean Soup's guest designers.  Now, the time has finally come... I was sent Garden Harvest to create with alongside All About Dots and All About Plaid 6x8 paper pads. I added in some cut files from Pretty My Page for these two layouts. Plenty of fussy cutting too.   I left some of the blue background on the flowers and leaves.  I love the extra pop of colour it adds.  It also helps them to stand out from the white background. I trimmed up some of the washi stickers and added them to the background. Here's the process video:  And here is another... This one is all about the rainbow coloured epehemera/stickers/washi goodness. With a little messy mixed media in the background... Again, the cut file is from Pretty My Page. There is plenty more to share.  If you can't wait pop over to the Jillibean blog (and maybe leave me a comment?) but I will be back here with mor

Pretty My Page

The lovely Lisa-Jane at Pretty My Page has designed this open font... I decided it was perfect to create a layout about my word of the year (for last year!) I set up my cameo mat with strips of coloured paper and a dark grey paper.  I cut the complete alpha on the grey and just the outline on the colourred paper. And then glued them together. The spacing took a bit of working out.  I used some torn wahi tape on the background as guidelines.  It's not obvious but I like to layer up subtle details. I love how it looked... but hadn't included the word patince anywhere.  D'oh! I solved this by using an acetate overlay and using the alpha cutfile to poke sewing holes.  I did think halfway through about the irony of the situation... scraping about patience whilst huffing and sighing about hand sewing! Really pleased with the finished result though.  I will make sure to get to this years word before next year! You can find the font

Dinosaur PJS | Camera | Try. Fail. Learn.

Sharing my last batch of layouts... Dinosaur PJs UKSA have a monthly theme of no cardstock, FTLOPP have a monthly theme of stashbustingyour patterned papers.  I've combined both for this layout. The supplies are Elle's Studio and Bella Blvd.  I love the colours and the dinosaur! I waivered mid-way through the layout and nearly switched to white card but I'm glad I stuck it out. Camera This layout again uses no cardstock and lots (for me) of patterned paper.  The prompt was from Stash Busting and was to use white and one other colour. The acrylic cameras are from my vast stash of Color Cast Designs.  I don't use them because they work out expensive after paying handling and shipping. I'm not letting myself think like that this year as it really makes no sense!  (I'm also not letting myself buy things from overseas if they work out costing a guilt inducing amount.) Try. Fail. Learn The exact same story for this lay

A twofer!

That's two for one, in case you were wondering! First up is a layout using this sketch for For The Love Of Pretty Paper . I've had my box of Pretty Little Studio supplies out and found my old 'With All My Heart' stash. And secondly a layout with white and buttermilk for White With 1 ... I've used washi tape to make some yellow paper and softened it with vellum and tulle to get a better shade of buttermilk. I added in some stamping with StickerKitten stamps, embossed in white and painted over with some watercolour for a subtle background. I based the layout on this sketch . Here are the vids!

Life Is Short...

Today I'm sharing my first Pretty My Page layout of the year. I’ve used the Paige Evans pre-cut Origami Birds cut on white card.   You can find them here ; they are also available in black or cream. I’ve used black and white patterned project life cards from a recent Quirky Kit and added in a pop of colour with a green polka dot paper from Jillibean Soup.   I cut small pieces to back each of the openings making sure to vary the patterns.   When I tried to fit all 4 birds on to my 12x12 base I found I was running out of room.   In order to fit two photos and still keep the white space I crave I put one of the birds aside to use on a future layout or card. After working out my placement I removed the birds and photos and added a few splatters to the background.   I went with green and yellow to tie in with the photos.   When they were dry I added the birds and photos back on top and secured with a little adhesive.   I left the edges free from glue so they coul

One layout I just couldn't bear to put in the roundup post was this one... Lisa-Jane at Pretty My Page got this file on licence just for me as both of my nephews are dino mad.  You can purchase this as a pre-cut file , perfect for those of you who don't have a cutting machine, in white, black or cream. I've paired it with some Fancy Pants supplies and old alphas from Amy Tangerine.  In addition, I used some tile alphas from Pretty Little Studio. A little messy mixed media in the background tying it all together. I'm having a little kick of trying to make interesting titles. It's all to easy for me to not even bother with a title but I need to make a dent in my alpha stash! Thanks for looking!
