Laura Rumble - Crafter

I'm rediscovering Silhouette sketch pens... well, I bought them a year ago and figure it's about time I use them!!  I used them on my hexagon layout and have used them here... You know the deal with me... I use all of the colours all of the time!  I picked out some ROY G BIV colours to use with a Just Nick cut file .  I released the compound path for the cut file and selected only some shapes to draw each time.  This was put through my Cameo eight (I think) times. I added a few sequins from my SpiegelMom stash and added some simple tissue layers behind my photo.  I found a sparkly foam thicker amongst my 'really should use this' pile and that worked for my title. Then to finish off I used the silhouette pens in the regular hand-held fashion to colour some strips to use as a border.  I could have used rainbow paper but a) I didn't have any and b) this way the pen work on both the layout and the border are matching colours.

This month's Saturday Sketch is one that I've been thinking about for a while... I love the concept of journalling around shapes... I went one step further and used my Silhouette Cameo and sketch pens to do the writing for me. I then pulled all the sunshine coloured pieces from my Cocoa Vanilla stash and grabbed my yellow embellishment box. I threw in a few rub ons, some enamel dots, puffy hearts... There is a great video by Ashley Horton if you want to have a go at adding text to shapes. Here's my process...

Lucky stars are so fun to make!  The basics are: grab a strip of paper, fold at 108 degrees continually to make a pentagon, push the edges in to pop the middle.  You can find detailed instructions here . Here I've used StickerKitten's Unicorn Fairground collection not just for the stars but also to decorate a jar to hold them. Any excuse to make a shrink plastic unicorn, right?! I also stamped a strip of vellum with the word unicorn to label the jar.  I used tiny glue dots to adhere the vellum to the glass - this gives the cleanest finish possible when combining seethrough glass and mostly seethrough vellum.  You can grab your StickerKitten supplies here !  Linking up at Inspire Me Mondays ! I used to have wax crayons as a kid.  I don't remember them being quite this much fun though... You can watch me playing here: Here is the finished layout... I left the rest of the layout pretty simple so the focus could be shared between the photo and the background. I used a sparkly silver acrylic piece as my title.  This 'Shining Star' is one of the acrylic embellishments that Skull And Cross Buns currently have on offer.  Check them out here . I'm sharing my latest planner accessory made using Crafty Ribbons supplies... I've taken a couple of big buttons, 3 inches of elastic and some of my favourite ribbon; grosgrain Swiss dots .  I chose the ribbon and buttons to match the front of my Pirongs planner. I attached the stripey button to one end of the ribbon with a few stitches of blingy old thread.  On the other end of the ribbon, I attached the spotty button and the loop of elastic.  Then simply wrap the ribbon around the planner and hook the stretchy loop over the stripey button.  I also added a length of the same ribbon to the spiral binding using a larks head knot to use as a bookmark. I was very excited to be asked to design some sketches for Lottie Loves Paper ,  a fab UK scrapbook kit club.  The first one is up in their Facebook community as a challenge with a £15 prize for the winner.  Here is the sketch and my take on it... The bird in the photo is Lurkey the Turkey and I am in love with her!  Seriously, I want a pet turkey now... the budgie wouldn't mind sharing, I'm certain of it!!  (She genuinely tutted as I typed that...) The ink and tulle are from my stash, sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps and the rest are from Lottie Loves Paper's June kit.  They are from the Pretty Little Studio collection by Zinia called Sunny Memories.  I stuck to the sketch pretty faithfully - when I drew up the sketch I knew what I wanted my finished layout to look like! I used my sewing machine to make giant scalloped frills from tulle and filled them with sequins. Here is the process video... Thanks for stopping b...

I met an alpaca called Cola.  He lived with George and Elvis (who will be featuring in other layouts soon!) and they were great fluffy woolly chaps.  Then they were shorn... hehe!  They were not impressed, especially Cola, with their new hair-dos! When I arrived home from meeting Cola there was a parcel from Skull and Cross Buns.  I opened it gleefully and had to chuckle at the aptness of the supplies. One Acrylic Cola Bottle , one Retro Sweeties stamp set, one Quirky Sentiments stamp set featuring the word Smile! I used my MISTI to create the background stamping.  I can't stamp well without the MISTI and it doesn't take much effort to use it. The only issue is I can't film while using it as my desk isn't big enough - I have the big ol' 12x12 MISTI.   I placed the stamp and rotated the paper so I got 4 impressions before needing to reposition the stamp. How perfect is that cola bottle?!  And I love that the glossy accents...

I was rather inspired by this weeks card at Muse ... Here is my take: I used stamps from StickerKitten (hot air balloon) and Skull And Cross Buns (sentiment) with Distress Oxide inks. The sequins come from SpiegelMom Scraps. Thanks for looking!
