Cards | The Colour Throwdown

Each week I think, "oh, I'll play along with the colour throwdown this week" and make a start on a card.  Very rarely do I finish the card on time and get it shared! I think this one will sneak in before the deadline...

I started out with the geometric dies from Simon Says Stamp and a whole bunch of colourful papers.  I started with the 9-square square card.  There's nothing wrong with it but I wasn't loving it.  Perhaps it is too much, so I tried a smaller 6-square A6 (UK sizing) card.  Still not loving it.  I played around with the remaining pieces I had die cut and came up with card 3 - a mini slimline-ish sized card.  It's actually the size that the die cuts took up rather than measured to a standard size!  I'll have to make a custom envelope.

Now it makes sense... I need the white!  I struggle with the other two as there is no white cardstock for my eye to rest from all of the colour.  With that in mind I continued on with the off cuts and made card 4 - a slimline card which I actually finished with a greeting and embellishments.

The enamel dots were needed to cover a couple of tears in the paper from removing the washi tape that held a stitched die in place to add a little extra detail.  Grr!

And I'm pleased with how it turned out in the end.  I added a greeting from the MFT Winter Songbird stamp set embossed in Wow! white embossing powder

I will go back and add greetings to the other 3 cards but that won't be done in time to join in with this weeks challenge!

DMIO: Teach Me Something

A few weeks back I made a dream catcher.  A few readers asked if I could show them how I made it, so, here is my attempt at a tutorial! First up weaving the web. 1. You'll need a hoop and some ribbon/thread/yarn on a bobbin. 2. Attach the ribbon securely to your hoop. 3. Take your ribbon over the top of the hoop... 4. and up through the loop you've just made with the ribbon... 5. so you have a cross over. 6. Continue steps 3-5 until you reach the knot. 7. Now instead of going over the hoop you will crossover the ribbon 8. and through the loop you've just made to give a crossover. Continue on in this fashion until you get to the middle. You need to leave a hole in the middle as this is where the good dreams get through!  They then run down the tassels/feathers/any other hanging decoration and on to the owner.  It should look something like this.  You'll need to play around with your tension until you get a firm web. Now for the tassels - I like to

A Poe Quote

So I've been trying out art journalling for a while but had nothing that I wanted to share, until now. I was inspired by The Bears Challenge and picked this quote to base my page on. "If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered" I got some paints out, some spray mists too.  I used my fan brush, my fingers and a cotton rag.  I got messy, satisfyingly messy :) The letters are some old letraset vinyls that were my Aunt's.  When we cleared my Grandparents house I couldn't stand the art goodies to go to waste.  I saved them because I knew one day I would find a use for them.  They must be 40 years old but are still perfect.  (I sometimes look at things I get today and think they won't still be good in 5 years let alone 40!) I don't have the complete alphabet so there are some adaptations... c's became o's, E's became t's, w's became m's.  I magicked a k from a P!  Some
