Crafty Ribbons Challenge - AG With Ribbon

So my DT piece for todays Crafty Ribbons challenge is a layout.  I was looking at all sorts of sketches and mood boards and in the end I followed Scrap Around The World's mood board.

I took my inspiration form the metallic gold triangles on the pink pots in the bottom right corner.  I took my colours from the top left corner - gold, deep pink, dark teal, egg yolk - and I also used the chevron pattern.  I tried to get an ombre effect with the misting in the background but it wasn't terribly successful.  (I like it but it is not obviously ombre.)

I cut my fibre ribbon in to chevron/zigzags.  I also used some teal stained book pages.

Lots of gold misting behind.

I pulled out some triangular buttons (or these!), covered them with tombow multi glue and waited until it had turned sticky.  Then I covered them with gold leaf.

I also covered the top of my foam letters with gold leaf.  I left the sides black which highlighted their depth.

And there you have the complete layout.

  2. Nice layout Laura! Thanks for visiting me, that hotel hairdryer does look like a heat gun doesn't it! Trying to catch up, the computer is working but I can't find some of the software to load, and haven't loaded all that I have found yet. I suspect there is still something wrong with it, sigh. Yesterday I had an operation, my husband had some bad news on Tuesday and has gone to pieces so I have a lot going on. I have to take it easy for a couple of weeks now too.

  4. Love the texture going on here! The lettering with the gold leaf looks amazing, I like how it has given a subtle texture and the gold is so in trend. Beautiful.

DMIO: Teach Me Something

A few weeks back I made a dream catcher.  A few readers asked if I could show them how I made it, so, here is my attempt at a tutorial! First up weaving the web. 1. You'll need a hoop and some ribbon/thread/yarn on a bobbin. 2. Attach the ribbon securely to your hoop. 3. Take your ribbon over the top of the hoop... 4. and up through the loop you've just made with the ribbon... 5. so you have a cross over. 6. Continue steps 3-5 until you reach the knot. 7. Now instead of going over the hoop you will crossover the ribbon 8. and through the loop you've just made to give a crossover. Continue on in this fashion until you get to the middle. You need to leave a hole in the middle as this is where the good dreams get through!  They then run down the tassels/feathers/any other hanging decoration and on to the owner.  It should look something like this.  You'll need to play around with your tension until you get a firm web. Now for the tassels - I like to

A Poe Quote

So I've been trying out art journalling for a while but had nothing that I wanted to share, until now. I was inspired by The Bears Challenge and picked this quote to base my page on. "If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered" I got some paints out, some spray mists too.  I used my fan brush, my fingers and a cotton rag.  I got messy, satisfyingly messy :) The letters are some old letraset vinyls that were my Aunt's.  When we cleared my Grandparents house I couldn't stand the art goodies to go to waste.  I saved them because I knew one day I would find a use for them.  They must be 40 years old but are still perfect.  (I sometimes look at things I get today and think they won't still be good in 5 years let alone 40!) I don't have the complete alphabet so there are some adaptations... c's became o's, E's became t's, w's became m's.  I magicked a k from a P!  Some
