Macarons!

First challenge of the year is up at Crafty Ribbons Challenges today.  We are refreshed from our January break and are continuing on with our weekly challenges.  I have a mini album to share with you for our first challenge back...

I felt I was missing out! I had never had a macaron.  Macaroons I was familiar with… coconut-y goodness, but the almond based biscuit-meringue macarons had passed me by.  This HAD to change.  It did.  And I made it into a mini album…

I went through my collected tags, added a few kraft blanks, and a couple of pearlescent peach die cut tags.  These would make up the pages of the album.  I covered most of them with card stock – yellow waffle, peach flowers from the cake box from the deli, and hounds-tooth pattern from Fancypants Happy Go Lucky.

I had some puffy stickers from Claire’s accessories that I wanted to form the main embellishments for the album and I collected some similar coloured bits and bobs from my stash including; scrap paper, buttons, ribbons, stickers, tabs, glitter, alphas, rub ons, brads, lace and ink pads.  In the end I didn’t use any brads.

I painted some bare chipboard letters with gesso and then glittered the edges for my title.

I made a stack of embellishments – ribbon, sticker, lace flower, button, macaron sticker.

The rub ons (papermania, vintage notes, beautiful!) seemed to disappear in to the paper so I outlined them with a white gel pen and a black fine liner.

I love using aperture tags in my mini albums as you get little peeks through to the next page...

Some wired ribbon ruched up with a paper clip.  This tag from Fat Face already had the stitching on the bottom, it worked perfectly.

Tiny tags, big tags.

Still loving loopy cord.

I had a couple of tabs in matching colours :)

I challenged myself not to use any 3mm ribbon in this album.  No reason why really…  maybe I was intrigued as to whether I could manage without my beloved 3mm ribbons?!  I used twisted up paper to thread my buttons.

Combining the thin and wide macaron ribbons.

The last bite!

These yellow alphas are papermania too.

The inside back cover has the words any sane person would say after having a macaron from Patisserie Valerie...

Double outlining on the rub ons to help them stand out.

Made using lace, loopy cord, satin ribbon, buttons and Crafty Ribbons exclusive macaron ribbon.

Now I realise not everyone would make an album about eating  biscuit but hey! it made me happy and I'm really pleased with how the mini has turned out :)

Hello, Happy Whats On Your Workdesk Wednesday !  As promised a picture of last Wednesdays 'work' finished off.  Post and more photos here . This week I'm showing off the beaded ATC I made... Tricky to photograph so your getting one with flash and one without... It was all parcelled up and sent off to Queen of Desks Julia .  Here is a basic of how it was made... (lots of waffle about wefts and warps!) I use a flexible beading needle.  It is mainly 'eye' so it is very easy to thread. And delica beads which are more regular and accurate than the better known seed bead.  They are slightly more rectangular than round so they line up better. Thread your needle with the weft thread.  (The cross ways thread that weaves back and forth.)  Pick up the beads... Pass the needlefull of beads underneath the warp (tight length ways) threads on the loom... ...and push each bead u...

Hoppity!

Hoppity hoppity!!  :) Hopeful you have arrived here from Fleur 's blog as part of the Crafty Ribbons Easter Hop .  If not and you've found yourself here wondering what on earth I'm on about (and let’s face it J you wouldn’t be the first!!) check out the Inspirations site for all the juicy details! My project for the hop is         Easter bunting!  I cut three templates first - a triangle pennant, a bird and a heart.        Then I cut the pennant shapes from fibre ribbon, threaded them on to some 3mm satin and evenly spaced them.  I embellished each flag with some beads...       I backed the birds and heart on some thin white card and glued them to the centre of the pennants.   My supplies list: yellow fibre , pink fibre , lime fibre , 3mm satin , button box , white card, glue, beads, needle and thread.   ...
