Throwback | hello CAKE

Still going with the unshared layouts found in my drafts folder.  2018 me is such a bad blogger! I think pretty much all of the supplies are from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The blue looks like Dazzlerz from Shimmerz.  I no longer have any as it takes eons to dry... but it does look good! Thanks for stopping by!

Stick It Down!

Hello November! I'm the featured designer for Stick It Down 's single page team this month.  Here is the sketch... I've stayed pretty faithful to it but I have flipped it. My first idea was to use some giant sequins (well, 25mm!) as scallops.  I used two colours of paste through a stencil from Pretty My Page. When it came to my splatters I didn't have the exact colour I wanted - the silver was too dark and the white was too pale.  The solution was simple - mix the two together! I also added a little shading with the mist to make the title pop. Here is the video: Also, there's a quick little cameo from Henley, my new budgie.  It was her first time on the desk and I was very distracted!  Photos of her will follow soon... when she learns to sit still!!

Kelly Barron

This week's SpiegelMom Scraps project was to scraplift our guest designer - Kelly Barron. I took days to decide which layout to lift.  I could have lifted Kelly 's entire back catalogue!! I eventually settled on the layout above - a stunner, I'm sure you'll agree. As you can see from the video I pulled out some Shimmerz Dazzlerz and Texturez.  They are currently 50% off in the shop .  Add my code: Laura15 and you'll get an absolute bargain! The stencil is from Pretty My Page and I'm sure will become one of my favourites. The sequins are Rollin' Rustic and are the perfect neutral sequin mix. Thanks for stopping by!

welly boots

I have a LOT of stencils.  My friend has just opened a new website selling stencils.  I don't use a lot of stencils.  I want a lot of the stencils on my friend's new website.  These four things don't sit all that well together... I need to have a sort through my stencils.  I have a theory that I buy what I like the look of without thinking about how I will use it.  I did this with paper at the beginning of my crafting adventure too, and it led to a huge cull!  Any way, this layout uses one of my stencils... along with a whole bunch of blue goodies dug out from my stash.  I love these kinds of layouts - they are not made with a collection or big brand supplies.  Rather they are a collection of tags from clothes I've bought, packaging, off cuts and snippets, doilies and labels with a few ribbons thrown in for good measure. Thanks for stopping by!

Aubretia

SpiegelMom Scraps are having an Instagram party with Wild Whisper throughout the NSD weekend.  There will be a new challenge released every 4-5 hours. The first challenge is to repeat the dominant colour in your photo with inks and sequins... So I have gone all out purple!  I love it! These flowers are just beautiful in colour and form and it was so fun to create inspired by them. I've used sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps including some from the following mixes: Sweat Pea, A Mermaid's Tale, Summer Paradise . and Shimmerz in: Don't Be a Pansy Paste-eez, I Lilac You Dazzlerz , Grapetastic Dazzlerz . Here is the process video...

{WAKEY WAKEY}

Some of the like for ever crew are away on a retreat this weekend, the lucky ducks!  We are also running challenges in our facebook subscribers group... This is the inspiration board for yesterdays challenge: I have matched the three colours as best as I can, and also taken note of the 'always you' and the bathroom (although my bathroom is a lot less luxurious!) and scrapped a photo of me being very me!  I'm yawning and in my jimmiejams. I pulled out my purple Dazzlerz and mixed some with a dot of black ink to darken it down.  I used my ruler to smear it on to the page.  I love doing this but you get the best effects with one drag - I want to carry on playing and end up over working it! I also used some 'Oh say can you sea' and Mr Huey's Orchard inks to add splatters.  I have all my colours swatched in a book so I can see which will match my project. I added a small cluster to the bottom right to balance out the photo on the top left. ...

YOU

Hey there, today's SpiegelMom Scraps project features a Dazzlerz/sequins combo... If you are not a fan of sticking sequins on individually I highly recommend this technique!  Spread a layer of Dazzlerz (or Pasteez - note to self: must do this with Pasteez soon!) and while it is still wet sprinkle on some sequins.  You can choose to gently push them in with your fingertips, but I've found these little stars don't need any encouragement to stick. I made a photo collage in PicMonkey of the same photo repeated three times, two in black and white and one in colour.  Under the black and white photos I added some black acrylic ink and some black sugar paper torn from a sketchbook.  Under the coloured photo I added some vellum and Red-iculous Dazzlerz and Gold Stardust. For a few extra details, I added a couple of labels and short title.  Again I kept the colour to one side and black and white on the other.  I also added a few gold stardust sequins to...

Welcome to the SpiegelMom Scraps and Creative Embellishments blog hop... you should have arrived from Nanné’s blog One of the perks of being a Sparkler is we team up with the most fabulous companies!  This month it's Creative Embellishments . For this layout, I picked out my photo and chipboard first.  The photo is of my nephew reading his newspaper.  He is loving learning and breaks out the alphabet or some counting at any opportunity! I gave my chipboard a quick coat of white gesso.  When that was dry I painted on some Shimmerz Dazzlerz in alternating colours.  The layer of white helps the colours to stay vibrant.  I loosened up some of the lemon drop yellow paste by mixing it with water and used the packaging technique to smoosh some colour on the background. The cut file has been in my stash waiting to be used, I believe it is from Cocoa Daisy.  Then come the awesome SpiegelMom sequins... I've mixed  What's Up Buttercup ...

Remember The Basics

It is challenge day at Crafty Ribbons Challenges .  I have an art journal page for the theme of 'Use Ribbon or Lace'... I can't really talk you through the page - it is all blues and greens, and all 'left overs'.  When I am doing something like dying doilies I put them on a journal page to catch the extra spray.  When I have a coloured paste that cannot go back in its original pot I smudge it onto a page.  After a while you end up with a part background. I then grabbed some pens, washi, scraps and ribbon and just had fun.  I use this kind of creating as therapy in a way and the message I got out of creating this page was Remember the basics Let go of fear Breathe I used Chantilly Lace - Mary and Organza Swiss Dots from Crafty Ribbons.  I'd love to see you join us on the challenge blog... Thanks for stopping by

by the sea

Are you guilty of having something in your stash that has sat unused for years?  I am - lets pull those unloved supplies out and use them!  I have had the stencil I used for my background on this layout for SpiegelMom Scraps for years... possibly 6?  Maybe more!! I grabbed three colours of Dazzlerz texture paste - Gummy Berry Blue, Sour Apple Green and Lemon Drop Yellow.  I used the three colours separately through the stencil leaving a little gap in between the colours.  I then came back to the gaps and filled them with a mixture of the two colours from either side.  I have found the key to clean stencilling is to manipulate the paste as little as possible.  The more times you  go over it with a palette knife the more opportunity for the paste to spread underneath the stencil (as my sour apple did). My photo layers are all from Pretty Little Studio. I then gathered some matching sequins.  Let's Be Mermaids was a...

wheel

I had had a bit of a play with Shimmerz Dazzlerz doing a little colour mixing.  I had some left over so I smeared it across a blank sheet of cardstock with the intention of adding to and eventually it becoming a background.  Well, I rather liked the starkness of the smear and ended up using it as is rather than adding to it! I added some acetate and paper by Pretty Little Studio and some of the Lucky Charm sequin mix. I loved that at the bottom of the bag of sequin you sometimes get the middle of the sequins or 'sequin glitter' as I call it.  I added these to the layout too! So today's lessons are: Grab all your Dazzlerz and mix them on a pallete - they mix wonderfully and you can custome colours until your heart is content! Never throw away the last bits of a paint/paste mixing session - just get it on to paper and it can be used as a background or layering piece, or even cut/punched in to shapes. Use EVERYTHING that comes in the packet of sequins!! ...

Pudding

A new colour of Dazzlerz paste and a free sample of water colour paints means an experimental layout... I have Barely Blue, and true to it's name it is barely blue!  It is wonderful soft colour.  I spread some around on my background card stock to add interest and shimmer. Then I played with some watercolours and a Juliana Michaels cut file.  I had the wrong settings or my blade was wearing out, and it had not cut perfectly.  In most areas the cut line held the watercolour inside giving me a white border to each butterfly. I gathered up sequins from loads of collections, just picking a few of each, in colours that matched my butterflies.  I also coloured a doily to match too, and layered it under my photo. It certainly is experimental but I like the effect of the Dazzlerz roughly spread in the background with a cut file layered over the top.  I also love the coloured doily ... but I already knew that!  I've just ordered some more as...

Kites x2

You know when you think you've had a really good idea, but then don't like the out come as much as the version in your head?!  Yep, that is this layout... I love the kite cut files from The Cut Shoppe and really wanted to incorporate a crochet kite that My Pet Crocheter made. I used my like for ever kit and added in some Shimmerz Dazzlerz and ribbon from Crafty Ribbon.  The tiny square alphas are from Cocoa Vanilla Studios. You can watch the process here...
