Shape Series | Triangle Makes II

Here's a round up of everything triangle-y from the last few weeks.  Everything from a small bit of patterns paper that features a triangle design to projects created with triangles at the heart of the design. This layout was for a Scrap Squad lift and features a piece of green triangle patterned paper amongst other scraps from my yellow, blue and green paper boxes. This cut file was designed specifically for my shape series.  I've also added triangle stencilling in the background and used some triangle patterned paper to back parts of the cut file.   This layout has some stencilling that uses a hexagonal design that is made up of triangles... tenuous link to triangles but *shrugs* This layout is all about that 6x6 patterned paper... it is marvellous!  It's from a Honeybee pad and I love everything about it! There is a textured triangle stitch design on the background of this card.  Also had a little play with coloured embossing powder which is something ...

Shape Series | Triangle Makes

OK, so it's been a slow few weeks thanks to my health, but I have a few triangle creations to share with you.   Triangle stencilling with an old design from Skull and Cross Buns. Gulls from Heffy Doodle.   A kind-of sort-of take on the sketch in my last post... but I went off piste of course.  This is very much a bits and bobs layout; papers from all sorts, random stickers and embellishments, perhaps the most used brand is Pretty Little Studio, but mainly a total mish-mash.   Where are the triangles, I hear you ask.  All the patterned paper in this layout has some form of triangular pattern on it.  Also, got a few of those triangle 'dots' used! I am very pleased with this card... a triangular corner shaker pocket on a card.  There's a bunch of Bitty Bontanicals die cuts from Trinity and a simple embossed greeting using a Heffy Doodle stamp. This was an experiment where my measurements went a little awry.  The striped segments and glitter seg...

Shape Series | Triangles

So this "month" I'm focusing on triangles.  I'm so glad I didn't commit to doing this by the calendar month, I much prefer my free and easy months aka a few weeks and a bit extra or less... whichever.  We've gone up from a one sided shape - circle, to two sided shapes - hearts, to three sided shapes.  I'm not focussing on any particular triangle, I want to play with them all!   My initail stash search showed up a fair few dies, a handful of 'proper' rubber stamps from Skull and Cross Buns and a few patterned papers.  I still need to look through my stencils as I'm sure I've got some triangle themed stencils too.  My main focus is going to be using up my triangular shaped enamel stickers.  I've got a few from various mixed shape packs and I've used them all except for the triangles.  I'm not sure why the triangles never make it to the finished projects but this is the month that changes! As far as sketches and cut files go I ha...

Throwback | Triangles and Rainbows

Sharing a previously unpublished post from May 2018... I while back I did a 30 day watercolour challenge.  One of the prompts was triangles and I painted this stamp from Simon Says Stamp.  I use my Daniel Smith watercolours and pick lots of vibrant rainbow colours.  When I had finished I knew I wanted to use it on a layout somehow. I trimmed it down in to triangles in a variety of sizes.  I added in a few vellum triangles too.  I echoed the triangles with my photos and journalling spot too. A few clear and white sequins form SpiegelMom Scraps finish things off nicely.

Stash Busting | Literally!

I scrapped along with Stash Busting yesterday.  When I recently redid my craft room I collated all of the half dones and page kits/idea bags and vowed to get them used up.  These two layouts resulted in two empty bags and one slightly slimmer less full bag! This is Grammercy Road by Gossamer Blue.  I love this collection and wish they were still around making more collections.  I didn't bust the bag but I did have fun and get some used up. The Stash Busting prompt was to use no right angle with  the exception of your photo and 12x12 sheet.  I started off promisingly but as I cut my triangles in half I created right angles.  Doh! I also got a few cork pieces (SpiegelMom Scraps) and some thin wood veneer (Color Cast Designs) used up.  I find both these materials hard to get on the page so I was rather chuffed to have used both on the same page! Next up a photo and title from one bag and some black and white scraps from another....

4 Shapes

Like For Ever 's Scrappy Sunday challenge this week is to use four different shapes on your project. Autumn Days I've made two layouts, first up using September's Acorn Avenue kit... The colours in the kit are stunning - but you could just as easily make a neutral layout using the b-sides too.  I went brighter for this first layout. The ephemera pack is, well, packed!  I picked out some hearts and acorns and made a garland. These thickers didn't shed any glitter, which was a relief as last time I used glitter thickers I got a bit of glitter in my eye.  Ouch! Adding to the hearts and acorns, I used squares of patterned paper and circular sequins.  Four shapes easily achieved - to think I worried it would be tricky! B This is my back up layout using August's kit in case September's kit arrived late, or arrived on time but I wasn't well enough to get a layout made!  I chose square, triangle, heart and circle for this layout. ...

LFE: Sunday Sketch

Sunday means Like For Ever have a challenge.  It a just for fun thing and alternates each week between a sketch and a general challenge.  This week was a sketch... And here is my take... I've used my Like For Ever kit from August (although you don't need a kit to join in with us.)  I'm very excited as September's kit will arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday. I negotiated with the letter stickers... I had an E left but it was the wrong colour so I add part of an exclamation mark to an F.  I had run out of T's but made one from a 4.  A few strategically placed dots of gold paint conceal the joins. Having followed the sketch pretty accurately, albeit mirrored, I found my layout needed something more to the left of the photo.  After consulting with the boss (a.k.a. Mum a.k.a. My Pet Crocheter) I added some stitching and a small gold triangle.  Mum isn't a scrapbooker but she is jolly handy to have as a second pair of eyes... Pre...

Al Fresco

Last months Like For Ever kit is still going strong... It included this pack of acetate triangles and I had a real struggle getting them to work.  Eventually I went all out on one layout - 'it's a waste to use them all in one go' said half of me.  'It'll be a waste if you don't use any of them!' tutted the other half of me. I wasn't sure of attaching them with no glue showing was possible by any means other than sewing.  What adhesive do you use for clear products? I've had a bit of a fail on the wood veneer front.  This is only the second piece from the kit that I have used... If they were all like this maybe I'd be having better luck using them up!! Thanks for stopping by!

Right Now

I might be getting in to my stride with the July kit from Like For Ever ... Although looking at this now, perhaps it could use a title somewhere? This is all about the background paper.  It had white triangles on it - how to use it without obliterating them? Well I cut templates of each one (of course they were all different sizes!) and stacked up transparent layers.  I attached them by running them through my sewing machine - just one line of stitching so I could bend up the edges for dimension. I scattered some rub on triangles over the layout and added quite a lot of black ink.  Every time I thought I'd finished with the ink I went back and added a little bit more! The thing I love most about this layout though are the juicy layers under the photo.  Tonnes of layers, all different colours and materials - plain vellum, plain tissue paper, patterned paper, patterned vellum, cardstock, tissue paper used to mop up inks, and finally a piece of stri...

Mothers Day

I had trouble getting a tightly cropped photo of this layout.  Even though I gessoed and weighted down my cardstock, I still got a lot of warping.  It'll be fine in the album, it's just not easy to take photos of. I used clear gesso in a triangular shape on the right hand side of the page.  As it turns out I went past the area I gessoed and it gave a really nice effect.  I used modelling paste through a star stencil, then threw the mists and paint on while it was still wet. The mist on the wet paste gives a slightly different effect than mist on dry paste. There I go with the triangle paper again.  I love that cutting it in different ways gives different patterns.  As I had picked out a pop of red to go under the photos I thought red alphas would be best.  I didn't have any so I used a pro marker to alter these pink Basic Grey alphas.  I moved the title around a fair few times, but it eventually settled underneath the photo. ...
