Postcards

Recently I found Ursula Markgraf who runs a swap for handmade postcards.  I signed up and set to work...  I was very unhappy with the darker purple poppy (the stem is in the wrong place and the flower feels unbalanced) so I tried again on the paler poppy.  I'm still unsure about it and will keep trying until I master it (I have someone in mind you see, and she rather likes purple and poppies!) but here are the three I sent off in a bit more detail... This is the first time I used watercolour markers.  I had intended the whole work to be watercolour markers but I ended up adding regular watercolour paint, acrylic paint, India ink and coloured pencil.  I learnt I need to practice with the watercolour markers!! This one is mainly watercolour markers.  Instead of using them direct to the paper though I scribbled them on to my glass cutting mat and picked up the colour with a water brush.  I had to work really hard to get the paint to bloom...

That's Handy

I sketched this hand a couple of years back. It is my friend's hand.  I took a photo (rather than make him sit still holding his hand out!) and worked from the photo. The straight lines you might see around the edges are bleed lines.  It was used as a background with a Bible verse over the top.

WOYWW #151

Hello Wednesday! Hello WOYWWer's!  (If you are thinking 'Eh?' check out Julia's ) So this week my desk is awaiting a tidy - what's new?! There is only one project on the go at the moment the rest is just stuff waiting to be put away! I'm working on a beaded Snoopy for my cousinlet, but it's growing very slowly as I am sleeping quite a lot at the moment. Not a very inspiring sky outside, it's foul here.  (How very British to talk about the weather!!) Last week I finished my mini album and scratch your own postcard  if you're interested in having a peek.  Thanks for popping by!

Scratchy Postcard

You caught a glimpse of it on my desk on Wednesday and here it is... I was at a bit of a loss as what to put on it as I had no wood to practise on and didn't know how hard it would be.  The leaflet in the pack unhelpfully suggested a heart with an arrow through it and initials, scratched on with a key.  I decided against this (he's not that kind of a friend!) and went for mainly straight lines and an Etch Art tool... because straight lines couldn't be too hard, right?  Wrong!!  I'd definitely like to have had a scrap piece to practise on first! Anyhoo, I plumped for bunting and a scratched message in the pennants.  I changed my mind as my hands and wrists hurt too much to do any more scratching, and stamped the message in StazOn. I bought a few and I definitely want to try again but only on a day when my hands and wrists are feeling particularly strong!! :)
