Scrapbooking | FTLOPP

Happy New Year!  What better way to start than by kicking depression in the butt and scrapbooking? I've been joining in with the FTLOPP Birthday Party challenges.  This one is 'use lots of a single embellishment' - I plumped for paper stars. This layout uses some of what I think is my oldest paper.  It's from Studio Calico circa 2012.  Just a tiny bit left now which will go in my scraps box. The feature of the layout is these origami stars.  I was inspired by Morag who recently used some on a layout.  The tutorial she followed is here .  When I try a new origami pattern I see how small I can make it.  I got to a finished size of 16mm... I attempted one that was 15mm but it really didn't have the definition or crispness.  Paper folding is also the theme of the month at UKSA so it ties in nicely with that too. Supplies are pretty minimal besides the patterned paper.  Less but chosen well, I hope.  Gold Shimmerz p...

White With 1 - Sunshine!

I'm combining prompts from For The Love Of Pretty Paper 's Summer Fiesta (make a tassel and use yellow), a sketch from SpiegelMom Scraps (by the very talented Suzanna) and this month's White With 1 challenge (Sunny Yellow and White) for today's layout... I tweaked the sketch by switching the square for a circle. I turned that cir cle into a giant shaker sunshine full of yellow sequins from SpiegelMom's. I 'fringed' (that can't be the correct wording!) some yellow cardstock and rolled it up to form a tassel.  I bound the top with some thread.  I'm not generally a huge fan of tassels but I can tell you they are very easy to make... I may have to use a few more! Thanks for looking!

sunshine face

This month's Saturday Sketch is one that I've been thinking about for a while... I love the concept of journalling around shapes... I went one step further and used my Silhouette Cameo and sketch pens to do the writing for me. I then pulled all the sunshine coloured pieces from my Cocoa Vanilla stash and grabbed my yellow embellishment box. I threw in a few rub ons, some enamel dots, puffy hearts... There is a great video by Ashley Horton if you want to have a go at adding text to shapes. Here's my process...

uksa daff

UK Scrap Addicts had a freebie cut file last week... pop over here to see it and download it!  I've had a play and come up with this... I coloured the cut file with Mister Huey's - the green is called 'Doris'!  It is, without a doubt, the best named ink spray in my collection!  Sequins and felt hearts from SpiegelMom Scraps. I've had this photo ready to scrap since 2015 and I thought the daffs matched it perfectly. The spoon and fork are part of the date stamp.  As soon as I'd stamped it I regretted it - it was so black.  I usually use a grey ink pad.  To balance out the black and make it look like it belonged I added some more stamping, a label and a black pen doodle border. When I stood back and had I look I realised everything was skewiff so I trimmed the white to make the title horizontal and backed the page with black. It's not what I intended to make but I love it nonetheless! Thanks for stopping by!

#smscutfile

Hi Chaps, I'm here today with a SpiegelMom Scraps layout using one of our free cut files.  You can find all our cut files here , and tag your Instagram photos with #smscutfile when you use our files - we love to see your work.  I especially want to see this cut file in use as it is one I designed. I have just got my hands on the latest sequin releases.  My favourite (I love them all, but you know!) are the little stars ' Stargazer ' but I was also really taken with the yellow mix ' What's Up Buttercup '.  Using them as my cue I pulled out some yellow papers and an assortment of black cardstock with different finishes. I spent some time cutting out pieces and backing the cut file.  I tried to spread the colours and patterns out as evenly as I could.  Once the hexagons were backed I added some black ink splatters and a sprinkling of sequins.  Very clean and simple, but also bold with a big impact. All that was needed to finish it off were t...

star

Here is a layout I made a couple of weeks ago for a mood board posted in the like for ever subscribers facebook group. I adore how it turned out! This was the background before the layers went on.  I cleaned my stencil on to the paper with a baby wipe... stop laughing!  It's a legitimate technique, it just sounds daft! Unfussy layers and tucked in die cuts.  Mostly ingredients from the like for ever kit, a bit of tissue paper and some packaging too... don't forget to check your packaging for pretty bits before you recycle it - that little scalloped piece is from the enamel dot packaging I think. I added a few sequins, enamel dots and paint splatters.  The star cut files are from Cocoa Vanilla Studios. I seem to be loving yellow at the moment.  I've been crushing on navy for a while now and pairing it with yellow is just so perfect. Oh yes, and there is the wood word tile.  I have a huge pack and I'm trying to work at least one...

SMS Sequins Hop

Welcome to Sequin Saturday!  This is part of a three day blog hop extravaganza for SpiegelMom Scraps. You should have arrived via our two special guests Missy and Alex , to start at the beginning go here . I have made an acetate 'glass' for my sequin drink to sit in.  I used three layers of acetate - two to hold the sequins and one for the back of the glass which gave me a place to tuck my flamingo drinks stirrer. I've also used the SpiegelMom Scraps exclusive cut files from August for my Summer title. The sequins in my drink are Summer Sunset with a few pinks from Spring Blooms at the base.  The drinks stirrer is from my Proper Post subscription. As always with SpiegelMom Scraps blog hops, leaving a comment on each blog gives you a chance of $10 to spend in the store. The next stop on today's hop is Lisa - Happy hopping!

Bee Happy

Another Thursday means another challenge at Crafty Ribbons Challenges !  This week the wonderful La Vikinga has picked the theme Easels - she meant easel cards but I went more literal... I paired the wonderful Bee ribbon from the Gnomes collection with some 3mm in yellow gold , along with a mini wooden easel. I gave the easel a coat of gesso and then painted bee stripes on with India ink. And made a cheery little card to sit on the easel with a cheeky little reminder to be happy! I hope you'll join us over at the challenge blog !

Banana Custard

Hi Friends, I'm here today with a SpiegelMom Scrap DT layout.  I was inspired by a recent layout from 'SpiegelMom' herself, Jody .  She had made a segmented shaker pocket, and this is my take on that... I don't have a fuse - my tool of choice is usually a sewing machine - but this time I opted for card and foam tape to divide my pocket in to three sections. I used plenty of SpiegelMom Scraps products, and I'll point them out as we look through the close ups.  I placed a doily underneath my title - it gives the title a nice place to sit whilst adding subtle detail and texture.  My string of bunting is made with yellow bakers twine and secured with a couple of mini clothes pegs .  I didn't like the plain wood with the yellow so I coloured the pegs with a gold pen. I wanted to hide my journalling so I used a glassine bag , shipping tag and some more twine . My sequin mix is the beautifully happy Sunny Smiles . My flair n...

PREEN

Happy NSD!  (Expect a fair few posts starting with these words over this weekend!!)  I am here to share with you my regular Saturday post for SpiegelMom Scraps . I've been experimenting with the white felt feathers .  I wanted to know if they would take colour - they do!  I sprayed the feathers with water and sprinkled on some brusho powders.  I needed a lot of water to get the colour moving but I love the results.  Now I know I can alter any of the white felt shapes to any colour to match whichever project I am working on. I dyed these ones to match my budgie's feathers - yellows, greens and a little blue in the long tail feather.  The different sized yellow sequins in the Spring Blooms and Sunny Smiles mixes match in perfectly.  Other than that I kept it fairly simple layering each feather over a piece of cotton ribbon tape and stitching with my sewing machine to attach to the layout. I added my alphas directly to my photo ...
