Card Making | Altenew's Colour Challenge

I was rather taken with this month's Altenew colour challenge - greens and yellows are my favourite and the pink was tolerable as an accent!  (Haha, if you're new here, I'm not a fan of pink to the point that it's become a bit of a joke now!)       I pulled out my Altenew leafy die set that really doesn't see enough use and decided to make a piece of mixed media card to die cut.  I've been asked for a tutorial and I thought this was the perfect opportunity...   As with so many ideas this one looked better in my head.  The texture on the mixed media piece got lost as the dies had all the fabulous apperture detail built in.  Any way, it's a great card, just not what it looked like in my head and not the tutorial I was after!  It will follow at some point... I popped the leaves up on a couple of layers of dragonfruit cardstock and placed them on top of a touch of ink blending.  I finished up with a small sentiment in the matc...

Scrapbooking | Feathers

This layout turned out nothing like I expected, but those are often the layouts I love the most! I started off with three Paige Evans feather cut files cut on white cardstock.  I used a range of colours of mists from Shimmerz to colour them up.  I made a wonderfully splodgy black background on 12x12 card and added a few stamped images on top for good measure. Then the first turn... I couldn't work out how to place my photo without covering up too much of the splodgy background so I chopped the 12x12 up, pieced it back together in a different order and added lots of messy sewing to join it back together. Lots of messy thread ends stapled into nests work with the free and wild background.  The next turn was to cut a few layers of vellum feathers to layer behind the cardstock ones I had coloured up earlier.  This added dimension and a bit of seperation between the bold strip of mixed media and the pretty delicate feathers. I embellished with enamel ...

Scrapbooking | P

I've pre-ordered some of the new Cocoa Vanilla collection from Lottie Loves Paper.  You know what that means, don't you?  Yep, I'm trying to use up some of my CVS stash so the new stuff will fit in my box!! I took a sheet of mixed media experiments from last year and cut out a load of circles.  I went old school... drawing around a cotton reel and cutting them out with scissors.  Sane people would use a punch, I suppose, but hey, whatyagonnado. These circles form the base of my layout.  I also trimmed the photo into a circle.  I must have run out of luck as it was wonky and didn't look anywhere close to circular.  I got into that vicious circle of trimming... just a bit more on this side to make it more round which turned into needing a bit more on that side.  I rescued it with a die and everything returned to calm. I added lots of white sewing to the circles and to the corners of the layout.  It's subtle being mostly white on...

Scraptember January Stash Bash | Die Cuts

My name is Laura and I have a problem with die cuts.  Well, cut files really... I cut too many of them, more than I can use and so consequently I have oodles of them in a box. This month Scraptember are running the January Stash Bash and today is the day to bust out the die cuts.  I am busting this gorgeous camera mesh cut file from Pretty My Page as well as using metal dies to create my title. Scraptember's January Stash Bash is a month of intense memory-keeping, with a new prompt and a new video every day, all designed to encourage scrappers to use up their stash.  You can join the Facebook group here and catch the playlist here .  This is today's video:   Whilst making this layout not only did I get ink on my camera lens and my sleeve I also got some in my ear!  I have no idea how and didn't notice at the time.  An hour or so later my Mum said 'what's that?' expecting it to be something to do with Henley Bird but no.  Gre...

Scrapbooking | Snug

I have gone way overboard on photos for this layout but it seems kind of fitting.  I have gone way overboard (for me, for my usual) on the layout too! This is version 3.0!  It evolved a lot as I was working.  I was so into the process I don't think it has ever taken me so long to create a layout!  Where to start?  The cut files.  There are two cut files stacked together.  I drew them up in procreate and cut them out of kraft with my Silhouette Cameo. The pine branches (underneath) were sprayed with a few green and brown inks.  The holly and ivy branches were backed with patterned papers.  People say it is hard to match greens.  I wholeheartedly ignore this and put as many greens together as possible whenever possible.  I think I have 8 shades on this layout and that makes me happy! Let's talk dimension.  There is a LOT!  The pine branches have naturally curled with the moisture of the ink sprays.  The ...

Scrapbooking | Crafty Templates and Cocoa Vanilla Studio

Catching up on some 2019 makes that didn't quite make it to the blog... this is one of my favourites. Made with a Crafty Templates kit featuring Cocoa Vanilla Studio ephemera. Along with mixed media supplies from my stash. I used the negatives from a cut file on the backgroud... and the effect they give is awesome!  I will be doing more of this in 2020. You can grab the cut file in the cut files tab above.  It's one of my doodles and is available for free. Here's the video: This second layout was made with the same supplies. I was on a roll and didn't want to stop creating (or tidy up!) This die cut is from a Simon Says metal die - so much quicker than using an electronic cutting machine but frustrating when you are used to being able to resize! Here's the video:

Lottie Loves Paper | Home For The Holidays

I've been scrapping with Pinkfresh Studio's Home for the Holidays as part of my DT assignments for Lottie Loves Paper.  The collection is fun and bright with the addition of a bright mustard yellow along with the usual Christmas colours. The first layout has a mixed media feel with inks and sewing. And you can never have too many birds on a layout! I don't know why I don't use the fancy stitches more often... And aaaah, look at the cute little chick.  Doesn't look at all like the monster who bit my ear so hard recently I thought I'd had another piercing!! Another bird.  I told you, never too many! No birds on this second layout although I did continue with the sewing theme. All of the squares came from half a sheet of patterned paper.  They looked like tiles so I tiled them across the page and grouted them with sewing! Everything else was kept fairly simple as the background packs a punch. And the third layout feat...
