SpiegelMom Scraps Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to our Sparklers Unit blog hop!  The Sparklers are split into two teams; The Blog Squad and the YouTube Squad.  Each month we come together to hang out here and bring you some great tips, technique and inspiration!  For this hop, you should have arrived here from Rachel .  Don't you just love her style? For my layout today I have featured Holly Berries Sequin mix and a whole bunch of Shimmerz Paints. Our loose theme for November is Cosy (or Cozy if you speak US English!)  I doodled a whole bunch of 'cosy' on some draft paper and turned one into a cut file for the first half of my title.  And used some small alphas from Elles Studio for the other half.  I popped my journalling on a few mini tags, I thought it would fit on two but I needed three in the end! I had so much fun playing with the mixed media background! Thank you for spending your time with us today!  I'd love for you be in the...

Super Star

I've used one of my exclusive sketches from the latest like for ever kit for this layout.  I make the sketches ahead of time, and there are a couple in this kit that I have been bursting to use! I had a fun time playing with green mists in the background.  I wanted to tie the green grass in the photos in with the green puffy heart stickers.  There was no green in the papers, though, so I turned to mixed media. I love the way Adele (Inkie Quill) adds mist to her photos and thought I would have a try.  I've also added some tiny sequins.  I like the effect and think I'll do this more often if the photo had any dead space. I used the flair as my title (from Feed Your Craft) and added some extra star sequins (from SpiegelMom Scraps) There are a tonne of these puffy heart stickers in the kit and I am determined to use them all this month!! And the rub ons too, they have a limited shelf life so I aim to use them all up this month.  We'll ...

My Baby Reindeer

I've been having fun!  We have tackled ribbon as part of the Stash Busters series of video hops.  You know I adore ribbon and am fortunate enough to be on the Crafty Ribbons design team. My favourite of the 2016 ribbons is Bruce the reindeer.  He is going to be gracing all of my parcels this Christmas.  I've put him to good use on this layout too... I've used tiny gold alphas from last months like for ever kit. Used Shimmerz paints and mists in the background, and added some red star sequins on top. I snuck in a Big Bruce as well as lots of little Bruces! I've jazzed up pegs and paper clips with 3mm ribbon bows.  (I blanked on the year... I need to work it out and fill it in - it definitely wasn't the year 201!!) You can watch the process video: And in the description of the video you will find my co-creators video links too. Thanks for stopping by!

Hanging Advent Calendar

I know it's early!  I know!  But... this is the first of three advent calendars I will make and share this year.  The second one (coming at the beginning of the November) will be given away as a RAK.  Now, in order to allow enough time for people to enter, and then enough time for posting to wherever in the world the recipient lives, I have to start sharing the calendars now!  So, here is the first of this years advent calendars... I've gone all out ribbon on this one!  I've used the Santa's Grotto range from Crafty Ribbons, which has numbers and characters (and also lace, but I couldn't squeeze any on!) Each glassine bag is stuffed with a few sequins and a tissue wrapped parcel, and has a numbered tile of ribbon pegged on to a length of hanging ribbon. All of the hanging ribbons are attached to a coat hanger, but if you fancy making one yourself a piece of driftwood, a length of dowelling, a wreath... anything that you can hang 24 little ...

Falling Leaves

Hey there chaps!  Each time I get a new batch of sequins from SpiegelMom's I fall in love with one of the mixes a little bit more than the others.  My most favourite of the latest bunch is Falling Leaves . For this layout I wanted to use a lot of Falling Leaves to give the effect of, you guessed it, falling leaves.  The name really is spot on!  I pulled out a sheet of vellum and some coordinating supplies from my like for ever kit.  I also cut this months exclusive SpiegelMom Scraps cut file .  I stacked two on top of each other to give me a panel as long as my page and cut it on vellum.  I made my photo cluster and tucked in a doily coloured with the same range of colours.  You must know by know I love to colour my doilies to match my projects and they take every medium I throw at them without any complaints. When I knew the size I was working with I added some subtle ink work on my background using the packaging technique.  W...

Remember The Basics

It is challenge day at Crafty Ribbons Challenges .  I have an art journal page for the theme of 'Use Ribbon or Lace'... I can't really talk you through the page - it is all blues and greens, and all 'left overs'.  When I am doing something like dying doilies I put them on a journal page to catch the extra spray.  When I have a coloured paste that cannot go back in its original pot I smudge it onto a page.  After a while you end up with a part background. I then grabbed some pens, washi, scraps and ribbon and just had fun.  I use this kind of creating as therapy in a way and the message I got out of creating this page was Remember the basics Let go of fear Breathe I used Chantilly Lace - Mary and Organza Swiss Dots from Crafty Ribbons.  I'd love to see you join us on the challenge blog... A Double Pager

Stick It Down have a card sketch, a single page scrapbook sketch and a double page scrapbook sketch each month.  I have designed the sketches for the cards and some of the single page sketches but always shied away from double pages.  However the team is a member or two down and I've given it a whirl to make up the numbers.  Here is the sketch for October... I am using supplies from my Counterfeit Kit ... And here is what I came up with. I trimmed down two pockets so I could use the layout of the sketch as is.  I switched the stars to hearts and played fast and loose with the title placement! H is for Herbert!  Everything painted has been done with Daniel Smith watercolours, everything else was pulled to match. These hearts are the main feature for me.  A little bit of wisdom - cutting thick watercolour paper with a craft knife is not fun!  But I do like how it all turned out.  You can watch the process here (I edited ou...
